raised for special olympics maryland. for a polar bg fit bear. tim tuten is live at sandy point state park for the polar bear plunge. because of the impending snow in the forecast all school closings and delays are running along the bottom of our screen and the list is growing. right now we go to john collins for a look at conditions at sandy point. how is it going? >> the snow is not here yet but the cold air is in the water and in the air. here is a map. we prepared a lot of information. the numbers in white is the water temperatures which are mid 30's at thomas point light house. mouth of the sever river. and temperature there. in the blue box on the left side is the beach air conditions. and the air is conditioned. 22 degrees is the air temperature. south wind not quite 10 miles an hour so that gives us a wind chill of 13. then you put the people in that cold water and they get out of the water and all of that stuff evaporates on their skin. and that is cold, that is really cold. tim tuten is all bundled up and he will tell us what is going on at sandy point. >> everything is ha

three weeks. one was on sandy, the other was on raising taxes. in both cases obama had a bipartisan majority in the house. that is a governing majority. he's going to have it on immigration and also on the debt ceiling. not sure he's going to have it on guns, but he's going to drive the really hard-line republicans crazy because he's going to be able to break off 40 or 50 of them for all these other things. chris: that seems to be true as much as the opposition is hotter and perhaps hardening out there on the right. it does seem that the center right and the center are in play and obama is making his move toward them successfully. >> their governing philosophy coming in is that the fever would break among the tea party folks, among the hard right, and also that just folks in the house would sort of move to the boehner philosophy, which is a governing philosophy. the sort of -- chris: in other words, you don't need a majority of the republicans to rule. >> you break the rule, which is what he's done on these big-ticket items. they have been meeting over these last couple of days to f

in a way you wonder because of superstorm sandy and the amount of money, if you are going to talk about the budget, you have to have this conversation about the climate since these natural disasters clearly are becoming more and more, but i want to point out a quote that barack obama said in an interview five years ago when he was still running for president, and he compared himself to reagan. he says i think ronald reagan changed the trajectory in america in a way that richard nixon did not and in a way that bill clinton did not. the reason i point out that quote. i thought it was an important quote, and it gave you a sense of what kind of president obama wanted to be, and i think you've heard in the maugral address today in the way that president obama believes ronald reagan mainstreamed the conservative movement in the 1980s, that one of the things he wants his president to do is to basically mainstream the liberal progressive movement in the same way, so if the country is, say, center or center right, you can have this argument that when he leaves that he has mainstreamed it and mov
